Donor service solution for OpenIDEO:

August 2011

The OpenIDEO challenge question was asked: How might we increase the number of registered bone marrow donors to help save more lives?

We proposed the "Why Donor I?" service solution. A location based service solution that concentrates on using local donor information, collected through the service, to help promote and bring a sense of presence (and community connection) to the people that live and commute around you and their experiences in becoming bone marrow donors. The service eases the donor process by providing up-to-date simple visualised donor information. In the end, this will help to demystify the myths of the donor process and increase new donors.

Please take the time to read more about the concept and the feedback that we received at OpenIDEO

The service has 6 CORE SERVICE elements for increasing donors:

1. Advertising donor process using local donor stats;
2. Mobile application "why donor I?";
3. Donor drive visits;
4. Home tests;
5. Well-being gift to support potential symptoms;
6. Donor experiences.
